WHY BORN ICR: THE GENESIS & HISTORICAL NECESSITY

WHY BORN ICR: THE GENESIS & HISTORICAL NECESSITY

The inception of the International Council of Religions (ICR) was not merely the establishment of an organization; it was a profound historical response to an escalating global crisis. In a world increasingly fractured by sectarian polarizations, geopolitical conflicts, religious intolerance, and the weaponization of faith traditions, a critical void emerged: the urgent absence of an autonomous, non-partisan, and authoritative global platform dedicated solely to reconciling humanity through interreligious dialogue, moral wisdom, and collective peacebuilding.

Recognizing that lasting world peace is unattainable without peace among religions, visionary spiritual leaders, diplomats, legal jurists, and human rights advocates converged to create the International Council of Religions. ICR was born out of the fundamental conviction that religious traditions possess the ultimate ethical mandate and moral authority to heal societal divides, defend the vulnerable, and foster sustainable coexistence under universally recognized frameworks such as the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948).

The Core Catalysts Behind the Birth of ICR:

Countering the Rise of Global Religious Polarization: To dismantle extremist narratives, theological distortions, and hate speech by building enduring institutional bridges between major world faiths and indigenous spiritual traditions.
Filling the Void of Neutral Global Mediation: To establish an independent, non-aligned mediator capable of intervening in faith-influenced conflicts where purely political diplomacy often falls short.
Defending Universal Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB): To stand as an uncompromising global voice against systemic persecution, marginalization, and legal discrimination targeted at religious minorities and believers worldwide.
Unifying Faith-Based Humanitarian Power: To harness the immense grassroots networks, moral capital, and philanthropic resources of world religions to combat global poverty, displacement, educational inequity, and climate degradation.
Fostering Youth & Ethical Leadership for the 21st Century: To insulate younger generations from radicalization and cynicism by instilling universal values of empathy, pluralism, mutual respect, and moral courage.
